FIT!!!

Yesterday I got an acceptance letter from FIT!!!!

AHHHHHHHH!!!!

I am so excited!! ! ! ! !  ! ! ! ! !

just wanted to tell my followers I will be going to school for my passion, textile/surface design, in the fall!!!

Presentation Preparation

For my final W.I.S.E presentation, on May 2nd, I plan on doing a gallery sort of thing. 


I have not decided on the location, whether it be in the senior cafeteria, or near the auditorium. 


I have realized how much work I have done since I had to mount it all on black chip board. 


I probably have 70 things to hang, around there. I might cut things out because there is so much!


I made a list of how I want the gallery to go:

-college essay, how I am a chameleon and art is my sun

-start at renderings of flowers from Junior Year and talk about my introduction to textiles

-first time at FIT, (peacock painting, wood painting, nesting doll drawing) talk about commute and how I loved it

-first pattern, making it with Brooks, and section in my college essay about creating it

- second time at FIT ( man, torso, purple lady portrait, watercolor man, man/woman drawing)

-talk about inspiration (FIT inspiration paragraph) and pictures of inspiring art, textile book  patterns

- doodles, the start of all my projects

- plate doodles and process to final plates made

-stationary made from plate designs

-making a plaid

-working with dye

-transformations

From Croque To Repeating

    This was one of my first designs created on the computer. It is a croque








Then I created all of these repeating patterns:

 

This is one of my favorites.

This pattern was just a couple of the patterns I had already made just place on top on one another.

Tremendous Transformations

It all started out as a doodle

A doodle I thought would become a border, but somehow I decided to look at it differently.

 So I created this.

A croque, that I didn't know how to make repeat.

 But once I was taught, 

These are what were made.

Same for this little doodle, I created on the plane to Paris, France.

 That was then made into these:

 

 And then repeated into these actual patterns:

I am very happy I was able to learn how to make REAL PATTERNS.

Inspired by Incredible Colors

Two amazing pieces of inspiration


These two pictures inspire to create pieces of work that have intense hues that work together. Just as well as these do.

This is a picture Cinque Terre in Italy. The colors of the houses are absolutely magnificent. So bright, and all work together so well.

This is ink in water. It is truly amazing. I love the colors and how it is all so free.

How to Create A Legitimate Pattern

Today with Mrs. Brooks, she showed me how to create a repeating pattern.

I realized that I have been making "croques", which are kind of sketches of patterns that are not perfectly repeating.

So, what we did was take my star doodle sketch:

 and then I was taught how to create a 5 point layout.

First you create a 2x2 inch box on Adobe Illustrator
(make it any color)

Then put objects in the center and on the sides (in my case my star)

After that is done, go to preferences then to general and change the keyboard increments to 2 inches

Then take one of your objects and copy it, then make it "paste in front" so that it goes 2 inches from your original object

Spread as many objects as wanted in the 2x2 box to make a pattern you think is legitimate

Once you think the pattern is ready for complete repetition, create another 2x2 inch box over the original box, and make it have no fill and no stroke so that it can be viable to become a swatch in your palette

Once your pattern is in the palette, test it by create a space any size and clicking your swatch. It should repeat throughout your entire space

Above is what I created. The small boxes in the middle are the 2x2 inch boxes that were made into the swatches. The three big rectangles on the sides are legitimate repeating patterns.

I am glad I was taught how to do this, however it has made me think about how my work so far has been a little bit too amateur.

I may start to completely repeat some of the croques I have made already, but I have made so many that I might not get to all of them.

A Shining Star

 

Yesterday I scanned in the doodle above and made a few patterns from it. 

This one is just zoomed in. I still like it
